Proverbs 5 · Grade 5

Wisdom Protects Faithfulness

Name Date

Read and Think

The father calls his son to attention: My son, pay attention to my wisdom. The father teaches his son that God wants husbands and wives to be faithful to each other.

He describes the regret of someone who refused wisdom: How I have hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof. I haven't obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor turned my ear to those who instructed me! Regret is the fruit of refusing to listen.

The positive picture follows. The father tells his son, Rejoice in the wife of your youth. God designed marriage as a lifelong, faithful covenant between a husband and wife, and faithfulness is a source of joy. The reason is that God sees all: For the ways of man are before Yahweh's eyes. He examines all his paths. The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare him. In the New Testament, Hebrews says, Let marriage be held in honor among all (Hebrews 13:4).
