Numbers 9 · Grade 4
Waiting and Following
Read and Think
Numbers 9 records Israel's first Passover after leaving Egypt. Some men were unclean because of a dead body and could not take part. Instead of guessing, Moses told them to wait while he asked God. God gave a gracious answer: anyone unclean or on a far journey could keep Passover a month later.
The Passover lamb was to be eaten with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. None was to be left until morning, and not one bone was to be broken. John 19:36 says this was fulfilled when Jesus' bones were not broken on the cross.
The chapter ends with the cloud over the tabernacle. Whether it stayed two days, a month, or a year, Israel stayed. When it lifted, they set out. They followed God's timing, not their own.
