A Gift Each Day

Name Date

Read the Story

God's tent was all set up. The twelve leaders of the tribes came with gifts. First they brought six wagons and twelve oxen. The Levites used them to carry God's tent.

Then each leader brought gifts for God's altar. One leader came each day for twelve days. Each one brought the same gifts: silver bowls, a gold dish, flour, oil, and animals.

God saw every gift. Then Moses went into God's tent. He heard God's voice speaking to him from above the ark. God talks to His people!

Memory Verse

“When Moses went into the Tent of Meeting to speak with Yahweh, he heard his voice speaking to him from above the mercy seat that was on the ark of the Testimony, from between the two cherubim; and he spoke to him.”

The Dedication of the Altar

Name Date

Read the Story

Numbers 7 tells what happened when Moses set up the tabernacle. The princes of Israel brought six wagons and twelve oxen. Moses gave them to the Gershonites and Merarites. The Kohathites got none, because they carried the holy things on their shoulders.

Then God said each prince should offer on his own day. Nahshon of Judah came first. Each prince brought a silver plate and a silver bowl of flour and oil. He brought a gold spoon of incense and many animals.

Every gift was the same, and every one is written out in full. God valued each tribe's gift. Then Moses went into the Tent of Meeting. He heard the voice speaking to him from above the mercy seat, between the two cherubim.

Memory Verse

Every Gift Recorded

Name Date

Read and Think

Numbers 7 is the longest chapter in the first five books of the Bible. When the tabernacle was anointed, the leaders of the twelve tribes brought wagons and oxen, which Moses gave to the Levites according to their service. The Kohathites carried the holy things on their shoulders and received none.

Then, for twelve days, one leader each day presented an offering for the dedication of the altar. The gifts were identical: a silver platter, a silver bowl with fine flour and oil, a gold ladle of incense, and animals for burnt, sin, and peace offerings. The text repeats the full list twelve times.

Why repeat it? Because each tribe mattered. No gift was overlooked. The chapter ends with Moses entering the tent and hearing God speak from above the mercy seat. Jesus noticed a widow's two small coins (Mark 12:41-44). God sees every gift given in love.

Show What You Know

  1. Why did the Kohathites receive no wagons?

  2. How many days did the dedication gifts last?

  3. Why does the text repeat the full list twelve times?

  4. What did Jesus notice in Mark 12?

Think About It

  1. How does it feel to know God notices every gift you give, even small ones?

  2. What can you give to God this week?

Memory Verse

“When Moses went into the Tent of Meeting to speak with Yahweh, he heard his voice speaking to him from above the mercy seat that was on the ark of the Testimony, from between the two cherubim; and he spoke to him.”

Numbers 7 · Grade 5

Offerings for the Altar

Name Date

Read and Think

Numbers 7 returns to the day Moses finished setting up the tabernacle and anointed it. The twelve princes brought six covered wagons and twelve oxen. Moses gave two wagons to the Gershonites and four to the Merarites, according to their service. The sons of Kohath received none. They carried the holy things on their shoulders.

God then directed that each prince present his offering on a separate day for the dedication of the altar. Over twelve days, from Nahshon of Judah to Ahira of Naphtali, each brought exactly the same. Each gave a silver platter, a silver bowl full of fine flour mixed with oil, and a golden ladle full of incense. Each also gave animals for burnt, sin, and peace offerings. The chapter totals them at the end: twelve silver platters, twelve silver bowls, twelve golden ladles.

The repetition can seem tedious to modern readers, but it carries a message. Each tribe's gift was received and recorded in full, large tribe or small. The chapter ends with communion: Moses went into the Tent of Meeting to speak with Him, and he heard His voice speaking to him from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim. Gifts were brought, and God spoke. In Christ, believers now draw near with confidence to the throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16).

Show What You Know

  1. How were the wagons divided?

  2. How long did the dedication offerings take?

  3. What message does the repetition carry?

  4. What happened at the end of the chapter?

  5. According to Hebrews 4:16, how do believers now draw near?
