Numbers 6 · Grade 4
Set Apart and Blessed
Read and Think
Numbers 6 describes a special vow anyone in Israel could make. A Nazirite separated himself or herself to Yahweh for a set time. During that time, they avoided every product of the grapevine, let their hair grow, and stayed away from dead bodies, even of close family. All the days of his separation he is holy to Yahweh.
If someone died suddenly beside them, the vow was broken. They had to shave, bring offerings, and start again. At the end of the vow, they brought offerings and shaved their consecrated hair.
God then gave the priestly blessing. It asks that God would keep His people, show His favor, be gracious, and give peace. So they shall put my name on the children of Israel; and I will bless them. In Jesus, God's face shines on us fully (2 Corinthians 4:6).
