Numbers 34 · Grade 4
Drawing the Lines
Read and Think
Before Israel crossed the Jordan, God marked out the borders of their new home. He traced the south border near the wilderness of Zin, the west along the Great Sea, the north toward the mountains, and the east down the Jordan River to the Salt Sea.
This was the land God had promised to Abraham hundreds of years earlier. Now the promise was close at hand. Two and a half tribes had already received land east of the Jordan, so the land of Canaan would go to the other nine and a half tribes.
God also chose the leaders who would divide the land. Eleazar and Joshua would oversee it, with one leader from each tribe. God cares about fairness and order. Even the borders showed that His promises are specific and real.
