Gifts on Time

Name Date

Read the Story

God told His people to bring Him gifts at the right times. Every day, they gave Him two lambs. One was in the morning. One was in the evening.

On the Sabbath day, they gave more. At the start of each month, they gave more too.

They also had special feasts, like Passover. God wanted His people to worship Him every day of the year. Jesus gave Himself one time for us all.

Memory Verse

“You shall tell them, ‘This is the offering made by fire which you shall offer to Yahweh: male lambs a year old without defect, two day by day, for a continual burnt offering.”

A Continual Offering

Name Date

Read the Story

God said, See that you present My offering in their due season. Each day, two male lambs a year old without defect were offered. One was in the morning, and one at evening. This was a continual burnt offering.

On each Sabbath, two more lambs were added. At the beginning of every month, they offered bulls, a ram, lambs, and a goat for a sin offering.

In the first month came Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread for seven days. On the day of firstfruits, at the Feast of Weeks, there were more offerings. Worship was woven into every day and season.

A Rhythm of Worship

Name Date

Read and Think

As Israel prepared to enter the land, God reminded them how worship would shape their time. Every day, morning and evening, a lamb was offered with grain, oil, and wine. This was called the continual burnt offering. The day began and ended with worship.

The Sabbath had its own extra offering, and so did the first day of each month. Then came the yearly feasts. Passover in the first month remembered God's rescue from Egypt. Seven days of unleavened bread followed. The Feast of Weeks celebrated the firstfruits of harvest.

These offerings never stopped, because sin and need never stopped. Hebrews 10:11-12 says the priests stood daily offering the same sacrifices. Christ offered one sacrifice for sins forever and sat down. In Him, our worship rests on what is finished.

  1. How did each day begin and end in Israel's worship?

  2. What did Passover remember?

  3. What did the Feast of Weeks celebrate?

  4. What does Hebrews 10:12 say Christ did?

My Food in Due Season

Name Date

Read and Think

Numbers 28 and 29 form a calendar of public offerings for the new generation. God said, See that you present my offering, my food for my offerings made by fire, as a pleasant aroma to me, in their due season. The phrase my food does not mean God was hungry. Psalm 50:12-13 makes clear He needs nothing. It is covenant language for the gifts at His table. The foundation was the daily offering: male lambs a year old without defect, two day by day, for a continual burnt offering, one in the morning and one at evening, ordained at Mount Sinai.

On the Sabbath, two more lambs were added, beyond the continual offering. At the beginnings of months, they offered two young bulls, one ram, and seven male lambs, with a male goat for a sin offering. In the first month, on the fourteenth day, came Yahweh's Passover, followed by seven days of unleavened bread with daily offerings. On the day of the firstfruits, at the Feast of Weeks, the same pattern was offered again.

Every layer of time, days, weeks, months, and seasons, was marked by worship and by atonement for sin. The repeated sacrifices showed both God's desire to dwell with His people and the people's ongoing need. Hebrews 10:11-14 explains that every priest stands day by day offering the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But Christ, after offering one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God. Believers now offer a sacrifice of praise continually (Hebrews 13:15).

Show What You Know

  1. What does my food mean in this chapter?

  2. Where was the continual offering ordained?

  3. When was Passover?

  4. What did the repeated sacrifices show?

  5. What sacrifice do believers offer continually according to Hebrews 13:15?
