Numbers 12 · Grade 4
Speaking Against God's Servant
Read and Think
In Numbers 12, Miriam and Aaron criticized Moses about his Cushite wife. Their deeper complaint came out quickly: they wanted the same standing as Moses. They asked whether God spoke only through him. The text says Yahweh heard it.
Verse 3 explains that Moses was very humble. He did not defend himself. God defended him instead. God called them out to the tent and explained that while He spoke to prophets in visions and dreams, He spoke with Moses face to face, for Moses was faithful in all His house.
Miriam was struck with a skin disease. Aaron confessed their foolish sin. Moses immediately prayed for her healing. God had her stay outside the camp seven days, and the whole people waited for her. Hebrews 3 says Jesus is faithful as a Son over God's house, worthy of even more glory than Moses.
