Numbers 1 · Grade 3
Numbered in the Wilderness
Read the Story
Numbers begins one year after Israel left Egypt. God spoke to Moses in the Tent of Meeting. He told him to take a census, which means a count. Moses counted every man twenty years old and up who could go to war.
One leader from each of the twelve tribes stood with Moses. Their names are listed in the chapter. Moses and Aaron counted the people tribe by tribe, as God commanded.
The total was 603,550 men. The Levites were not counted among them. God gave them the job of carrying and guarding the tabernacle. They camped all around it. The chapter ends, so they did.
Memory Verse
“Thus the children of Israel did. According to all that Yahweh commanded Moses, so they did.”
