God's people were in the desert near Mount Sinai. God told Moses, Count the people. Count them family by family.

A leader from each tribe helped Moses. They wrote down the names of the men who were old enough to be soldiers. There were so many!

The family of Levi was not counted with them. They had a special job. They took care of God's tent. The people did everything God told Moses.
