Nehemiah 6 · Grade 4
Faithful to the Finish
Read and Think
The enemies saw the wall was nearly done. So they changed their plan. They asked Nehemiah to meet them in the plain of Ono. They meant to harm him. Nehemiah answered, I am doing a great work, so that I can't come down. They sent the same request four times, and he gave the same answer.
The fifth time, Sanballat sent an open letter. It claimed the Jews planned to rebel and Nehemiah wanted to be king. Nehemiah replied that these things were invented. He saw that they wanted to make the people afraid. So he prayed, But now, strengthen my hands.
Next a hired prophet urged Nehemiah to hide in the temple. Nehemiah saw that God had not sent him. Fleeing would have been sin and shame. So the wall was finished in the twenty-fifth day of Elul, in fifty-two days. Even the enemies lost their confidence. They saw that this work was done by our God.
