Nehemiah 3 · Grade 4
Every Name Matters
Read and Think
Nehemiah 3 can look like a long list of names. But it shows how God's people rebuilt the wall. Eliashib the high priest led the way. He and the priests built the sheep gate and set it apart to God.
The builders came from every part of life. Goldsmiths and perfume makers did hard work with stone. Rulers of districts picked up tools. Shallum built with his daughters. Men came from towns like Jericho, Tekoa, and Gibeon. Many repaired the part of the wall across from their own homes.
One sad note shows up. The nobles of the Tekoites did not put their necks to the work. Yet the common men of Tekoa repaired two sections. God saw and recorded each worker. The wall rose because many people each did a part.

God wrote down the names of the people who worked. How does it encourage you that God sees the work you do for Him?
Many built near their own homes. What part of God's work is right next to you, at home or in your church?
