Nehemiah 2 · Grade 4

The Good Hand of God

Name Date

Read and Think

Four months after the bad news, Nehemiah served wine to King Artaxerxes. His face was sad, and the king noticed. A sad face could anger a king. Nehemiah was very afraid. Still, he told the truth about Jerusalem.

The king asked what he wanted. Nehemiah prayed to the God of heaven. Then he asked to go and rebuild the city. He asked for letters for safe travel. He asked for timber from the king's forest. The king granted it all, for the good hand of God was on him.

In Jerusalem, Nehemiah rose at night with a few men. He looked at the broken walls and burned gates. Then he called the leaders. He told them about God's good hand and the king's words. They said they would rise up and build. When Sanballat and Tobiah mocked, Nehemiah said the God of heaven would prosper them.
