Nehemiah 2 · Grade 3

A Prayer and a Plan

Name Date

Read the Story

One day Nehemiah brought wine to the king. He had never been sad before the king, but now he was. The king asked him why his face was sad. Nehemiah was afraid. He said that the city of his fathers was broken and its gates were burned.

The king asked what he wanted. Nehemiah prayed to the God of heaven. Then he asked to be sent to build the city. He asked for letters and wood too. The king gave them, because the good hand of God was on Nehemiah.

In Jerusalem, Nehemiah went out at night to look at the walls. Then he told the leaders how God had helped him. They said they would rise up and build. Some men laughed at them. Nehemiah said the God of heaven would help them.

Memory Verse

“Then the king said to me, “What is your request?” So I prayed to the God of heaven.”
