Nehemiah 11 · Grade 3
A Willing Move
Read the Story
Jerusalem had walls and gates, but few people. The leaders already lived there. The rest of the people cast lots. One out of every ten would move to Jerusalem, the holy city. Nine would stay in the other towns.
Some men offered to live in Jerusalem without being chosen. The people blessed all the men who were willing to go.
Nehemiah 11 lists the families who lived in the city. There were people from Judah and Benjamin. There were priests and Levites who did the work of God's house. There were gatekeepers who kept watch. One man led the thanks in prayer. Others lived in towns and villages all around.
