Lord Over Everything

Read and Think

After the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew shows Jesus' power in action. A man with leprosy, a disease that made people outcasts, knelt and said, "Lord, if you want to, you can make me clean." Jesus reached out and touched him, something no one else would do, and the man was healed.

A Roman centurion, a Gentile officer, asked Jesus to heal his paralyzed servant. He understood authority: Jesus only needed to speak. Jesus marveled and said He had not found such great faith even in Israel. Many would come from east and west to the Kingdom. Jesus also healed Peter's mother-in-law and many others, fulfilling Isaiah's words that He took our sicknesses.

Then Jesus calmed a violent storm, asking His frightened disciples, "Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?" On the other side of the lake, two men troubled by demons met Him. The demons knew who He was and were afraid. At His word they left the men, showing that Jesus has authority even over evil.
