Matthew 16 · Grade 3
The Christ, the Son of God
Read the Story
Some leaders asked Jesus for a sign from heaven. Jesus said the only sign would be the sign of Jonah. He warned His disciples to beware of the "yeast" of the Pharisees and Sadducees, which meant their wrong teaching.
Near the town of Caesarea Philippi, Jesus asked, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Jesus said Peter was blessed, because the Father had shown him this. Jesus said He would build His church, and nothing could stop it.
Then Jesus told His disciples He must suffer, be killed, and rise on the third day. Peter did not want this to happen. But Jesus said this was God's plan. He said, "If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me."
Memory Verse
