Luke 4 · Grade 3
Good News for the Poor
Read the Story
The Holy Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness for forty days. The devil tempted Him three times. He said to turn a stone into bread. He offered all the kingdoms of the world. He said to jump from the temple. Each time Jesus answered with Scripture. He did not give in.
In Nazareth, Jesus stood up in the synagogue. He read from Isaiah about good news for the poor and freedom for captives. Then He said this Scripture was fulfilled that day. Some people became angry. They did not believe Him and tried to hurt Him. But Jesus walked right through the crowd and went away.
In Capernaum, people were amazed at His teaching. Jesus healed Peter's mother-in-law of a fever. At sunset, many sick people came. Jesus laid His hands on each one and healed them.
Memory Verse
““The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the broken hearted, to proclaim release to the captives, recovering of sight to the blind, to deliver those who are crushed,”
