The Lord's Supper

Name Date

Read and Think

The religious leaders wanted to get rid of Jesus, and Judas agreed to betray Him for money. Jesus sent Peter and John to prepare the Passover. At the meal, Jesus said He had longed to eat it with them before He suffered. He gave them bread and said it was His body given for them. He gave them the cup and said it was the new covenant in His blood, poured out for them. Christians still share the Lord's Supper to remember His sacrifice.

The disciples argued about who was greatest. Jesus reminded them that He was among them as one who serves. He warned Peter that he would deny Him, but said He had prayed for Peter's faith not to fail.

On the Mount of Olives, Jesus prayed in deep sorrow. He asked the Father to take away the suffering, but He chose the Father's will. Judas led a crowd to arrest Him. Later, in a courtyard, Peter denied Jesus three times. The rooster crowed, and Jesus turned and looked at Peter. Peter went out and wept. The guards mocked Jesus, and the council asked if He was the Son of God. He said, You say it, because I am. He also said, From now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God. Jesus knew He would rise again (Luke 24).
