Luke 2 · Grade 3
Good News of Great Joy
Read the Story
Caesar Augustus ordered everyone to be counted. So Joseph took Mary to Bethlehem, the town of King David. While they were there, Jesus was born. Mary wrapped Him in strips of cloth. She laid Him in a manger, because there was no room in the inn.
Nearby, shepherds were watching their sheep at night. An angel of the Lord appeared, and God's glory shone around them. The angel told them not to be afraid. He brought good news of great joy for all people. Then many angels praised God, singing glory to God in the highest. The shepherds hurried and found the baby just as the angel said.
Forty days later, Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the temple. Simeon and Anna praised God, because they knew this child was the One God promised. When Jesus was twelve, He stayed in the temple, listening to the teachers and asking questions.
Memory Verse
“The angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be to all the people.”
