Luke 14 · Grade 3
The Great Banquet
Read the Story
On a Sabbath, Jesus ate at a Pharisee's house. A sick man was there, and Jesus healed him. Then He saw guests choosing the places of honor. He told them to take the lowest place. The host may then say, Friend, move up higher. Everyone who lifts himself up will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be lifted up.
Jesus told the host to invite the poor, the crippled, the lame and the blind. They could not repay him, but he would be repaid when the righteous rise again.
Then Jesus told about a man who gave a great supper. The invited guests made excuses. One had bought a field. One had bought oxen. One had just married. The master was angry. He sent his servant to bring in the poor and those far away, so that his house would be filled.
