God Feeds the Birds

Name Date

Read the Story

Jesus told a story about a rich man. He had so much food that he built bigger barns. He thought only about himself. He did not love God.

Jesus said, Do not worry about food or clothes. Look at the birds. They do not plant seeds, but God feeds them. Look at the flowers. God makes them beautiful.

You are worth more than birds! God knows what you need. Put God first. Your heart will be where your treasure is.

Memory Verse

“Consider the ravens: they don’t sow, they don’t reap, they have no warehouse or barn, and God feeds them. How much more valuable are you than birds!”

Luke 12 · Grade 3

Rich Toward God

Name Date

Read the Story

A man asked Jesus to make his brother share an inheritance. Jesus warned the crowd to watch out for greed, because life is not about having lots of things. He told about a rich man whose fields grew a huge crop. The man tore down his barns to build bigger ones and said he would relax, eat and be merry. But God called him a fool, because that night his life would end. Jesus said this is how it is for someone who is not rich toward God.

Jesus told His disciples not to worry. God feeds the ravens and dresses the lilies more beautifully than King Solomon. Your Father knows what you need. Seek His Kingdom, and these things will be added.

Jesus said to be ready, like servants with lamps burning, waiting for their master to come home.

“For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

Luke 12 · Grade 4

Where Is Your Treasure?

Name Date

Read and Think

Luke 12 begins with a warning about hypocrisy, which means pretending to be good on the outside. Jesus said nothing is hidden that will not be known. He told His friends not to fear people. God knows even the number of hairs on their heads, and He values them more than many sparrows.

When someone asked Jesus to settle a money fight, Jesus warned against all kinds of greed. In the parable of the rich fool, a farmer planned to store his crops and enjoy life for many years. God said that very night his life would end, and then who would get his things? A person who stores treasure for himself but is not rich toward God is foolish.

Instead of worrying, Jesus said, consider the ravens and the lilies. God feeds and clothes them. Worry cannot add a single hour to life. Seek God's Kingdom first. Give to the needy and store up treasure in heaven, because where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Be ready for the Lord's return, like faithful servants.

Luke 12 · Grade 5

Seek His Kingdom

Name Date

Read and Think

Jesus spoke to His disciples while thousands crowded around. He warned them to beware of the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. He told them not to fear those who can only harm the body, but to fear God, who has all authority. Yet the same God cares for sparrows and knows every hair on their heads. When they are brought before rulers, the Holy Spirit will teach them what to say.

A man wanted Jesus to divide an inheritance, but Jesus saw greed in his heart. He told of a rich man who planned to build bigger barns and take life easy. God said, You foolish one, tonight your soul is required of you. Life does not consist in the abundance of the things a person owns. To be rich toward God is to trust Him and use what we have for His purposes.

Jesus told His disciples not to be anxious about food or clothing. The ravens do not sow or reap, yet God feeds them. The lilies do not work, yet Solomon was not dressed like one of them. Seek God's Kingdom, and these things will be added to you. Jesus also urged them to be faithful and ready. The master will return at an unexpected hour, and the servant he finds faithful will be blessed.

  1. What is the yeast of the Pharisees?

  3. What does it mean to be rich toward God?
