Leviticus 8 · Grade 4
Set Apart to Serve
Read and Think
In Exodus, God gave instructions for making Aaron and his sons priests. In Leviticus 8, Moses carries them out before the whole congregation. Again and again the chapter says Moses did as Yahweh commanded.
Moses washed the men, dressed Aaron in the holy garments, and anointed the tabernacle and everything in it. Then he poured anointing oil on Aaron's head to sanctify him, which means to set him apart for God. Moses offered sacrifices and put blood on the right ear, thumb, and big toe of each priest. Their ears, hands, and feet were set apart for God's service.
For seven days the priests stayed at the Tent of Meeting. The chapter ends: Aaron and his sons did all the things which Yahweh commanded by Moses. Hebrews calls Jesus our great High Priest, and Peter says believers are a royal priesthood, set apart to serve God.
