Leviticus 7 · Grade 4
A Meal of Thanksgiving
Read and Think
Leviticus 7 finishes the laws about offerings. It explains which parts of each offering belonged to the priests. The priests served God full time, so God provided food for them through the offerings.
The chapter describes three kinds of peace offerings. A thanksgiving offering thanked God for His help. A vow offering kept a promise made to God. A free will offering was simply given from a willing heart. The thanksgiving meal had to be eaten on the day it was offered.
God also repeated that His people must not eat fat or blood. Anyone who ate holy food while unclean would be cut off from his people. God's holy things were to be treated with respect. Psalm 100 says to enter His gates with thanksgiving, which is still how we come to God.
