Leviticus 6 · Grade 4
A Fire That Never Goes Out
Read and Think
Leviticus 6 begins by saying that cheating a neighbor is also a sin against the Lord. If someone lied about something left in his care, stole, or kept a lost item, he had to restore it in full and add a fifth part more. Then he brought a ram, and the priest made atonement for him.
Next, God gave instructions to Aaron and his sons. The burnt offering stayed on the altar all night. Fire shall be kept burning on the altar continually; it shall not go out. Each morning the priest added wood and removed the ashes, wearing his linen garments.
The chapter also explains how the priests ate the grain offering and the sin offering in a holy place. The priests had daily work to do. Their faithfulness every morning and every night is a picture of steady, everyday worship of God.
