Leviticus 5 · Grade 2

Tell the Truth to God

Name Date

Read the Story

God said some sins are about what we do not do. If a person saw something and did not tell the truth, that was sin. If someone made a promise without thinking, that was sin too.

God said the person must confess. To confess means to tell God what you did wrong. Then he could bring a lamb or a goat.

What if he was too poor for a lamb? He could bring two doves. What if he was too poor for doves? He could bring a little flour. God made a way for everyone. He wanted all of them to be forgiven.

Memory Verse

“He shall offer the second for a burnt offering, according to the ordinance; and the priest shall make atonement for him concerning his sin which he has sinned, and he shall be forgiven.”

Leviticus 5 · Grade 3

Rich or Poor, God Forgives

Name Date

Read the Story

Leviticus 5 names some sins that are easy to miss. A person might be a witness but not speak up. A person might touch something unclean. A person might make a careless promise.

When he knew he was guilty, he had to confess the sin. Then he brought a female lamb or goat as a sin offering. If he could not afford a lamb, he brought two turtledoves or two young pigeons. If he could not afford birds, he could bring a tenth of an ephah of fine flour.

The chapter also explains the trespass offering. If someone did wrong with the holy things of the Lord, he brought a ram. He also had to pay back what he owed, and add a fifth part more. The priest made atonement, and he was forgiven.

Memory Verse

“He shall offer the second for a burnt offering, according to the ordinance; and the priest shall make atonement for him concerning his sin which he has sinned, and he shall be forgiven.”

Leviticus 5 · Grade 4

Confession and Restitution

Name Date

Read and Think

This chapter shows that sin is not only doing bad things. It can also be failing to do right, like a witness who stays silent. It includes careless oaths, promises made without thinking. God wanted His people to be honest about all of it.

When a person realized his guilt, he had to confess the sin. Then he brought an offering. God scaled the offering to what a person could afford: a lamb or goat, two birds, or even a small amount of flour. No one was too poor to be forgiven.

The trespass offering, or guilt offering, was for wrongs against the holy things of God. The person brought a ram and also paid back what he owed, plus one fifth more. Making things right was part of turning from sin. Jesus is our offering, and He also helps us make things right with others.

Leviticus 5 · Grade 5

Making It Right

Name Date

Read and Think

Leviticus 5 continues the teaching on sin offerings and introduces the trespass offering. It begins with sins that are easy to overlook: refusing to testify when one has seen or known something, touching something unclean, or swearing an oath rashly. These are sins of silence, carelessness, and thoughtless speech.

God's instruction is clear: It shall be, when he is guilty of one of these, he shall confess that in which he has sinned. Confession comes first. Then the worshiper brought a female lamb or goat. If he could not afford a lamb, two turtledoves or two young pigeons were enough, and for the very poor, a tenth of an ephah of fine flour. God's forgiveness was within reach of everyone.

The trespass offering covered wrongs against the holy things of Yahweh. The guilty person brought a ram without defect and also made restitution, paying back what was owed and adding a fifth part more. Forgiveness from God and repair toward others belong together. When Zacchaeus met Jesus, he gladly paid back more than he had taken, showing how a changed heart makes things right.

  1. What three overlooked sins does the chapter name?

  2. What comes first, according to verse 5?
