Leviticus 26 · Grade 4
A Covenant Promise
Read and Think
Leviticus 26 is near the end of the book and sums up the covenant. God promised that if Israel walked in His statutes, He would give rain, abundant harvests, peace, and victory. Most of all, He would set His tent among them and walk among them.
God also warned of what would happen if they rejected Him. The warnings grow stronger in steps, like a father's discipline meant to turn a child back. Disease, drought, enemies, and finally exile would come. Even the land would get the Sabbath rests they had refused to give it.
Yet the chapter ends with hope. If they confess their iniquity, God will remember His covenant. He said, I will not reject them, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly. Paul quotes verse 12 in 2 Corinthians 6:16. In Christ, God dwells among His people.
