Leviticus 21 · Grade 3
Holy to You
Read the Story
Leviticus 21 gives rules to Aaron's sons, the priests. They had a very holy job. They offered the bread of God at the altar. So they had to keep themselves holy.
Priests were careful about touching the dead, except for close family. They were careful about whom they married. The high priest had the strictest rules, because the anointing oil of his God was on him.
Priests with a physical defect could not offer at the altar. Their bodies were part of a picture of the perfect Priest to come. But God said they could still eat the holy bread. God cared for them. Jesus later welcomed the blind and the lame.
Memory Verse
“Therefore you shall sanctify him, for he offers the bread of your God. He shall be holy to you, for I Yahweh, who sanctify you, am holy.”
