Leviticus 20 · Grade 4

Holy to Me

Name Date

Read and Think

Leviticus 20 gives penalties for sins named earlier in the book. These include giving children to Molech, seeking mediums, cursing parents, and sins against marriage. The penalties were severe. They show how seriously God takes sin that hurts families and turns hearts from Him.

In the middle of these warnings, God gives His people a calling: Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be holy. He also gives a promise: I am Yahweh who sanctifies you. God does not only command holiness. He makes His people holy.

The chapter ends: You shall be holy to me, for I, Yahweh, am holy, and have set you apart from the peoples, that you should be mine. Peter uses words like these for Christians. He says we are a chosen people, God's own possession (1 Peter 2:9).
