Not Like the Others

Read the Story

God's people had lived in Egypt. Soon they would go to Canaan. The people there did many wrong things.

God said, Do not do what they do. Keep My rules. Walk in My ways. I am the Lord your God.

God's rules kept families safe and strong. God wants His people to be different, in a good way. When we follow God, we show others how good He is.

Memory Verse

“You shall do my ordinances. You shall keep my statutes and walk in them. I am Yahweh your God.”

Leviticus 18 · Grade 3

You Shall Live

Name Date

Read the Story

Leviticus 18 begins with God saying, I am Yahweh your God. God reminded Israel who He was. They had lived in Egypt and were going to Canaan. In both lands, people did things God called wrong.

God said, You shall not follow their statutes. Instead, Israel was to keep God's statutes and walk in them. God promised that the one who does them shall live in them.

Most of the chapter gives rules to protect marriage and families. God said the nations had defiled the land by their sins. Israel must be different. God's ways are good for His people.

Memory Verse

“You shall therefore keep my statutes and my ordinances, which if a man does, he shall live in them. I am Yahweh.”

A Holy Difference

Name Date

Read and Think

Leviticus 18 opens and closes with the same reminder: I am Yahweh your God. Israel had come out of Egypt and was heading into Canaan. In both places people lived in ways that did not honor God. God told His people, You shall not follow their statutes.

God gave clear boundaries to protect marriage and family. He said the nations in Canaan had broken these boundaries and defiled the land. Israel was not to copy them. God promised that whoever keeps His statutes and ordinances shall live in them.

Being God's people meant being different, not to look better than others, but to show what God is like. Jesus said His followers are the light of the world (Matthew 5:14). When we follow God's good ways, our lives point others to Him.

Leviticus 18 · Grade 5

Keep My Statutes

Name Date

Read and Think

Leviticus 18 is framed by God's name. It begins, I am Yahweh your God, and it ends the same way. The point is clear: Israel's behavior was to flow from who their God was. God named two cultures they must not imitate: Egypt, which they had left, and Canaan, where they were going.

The heart of the chapter sets boundaries that protected marriage, family, and human life. These boundaries forbade relationships that would harm families, and they also forbade offering children to the false god Molech. God said the nations had done these things and the land became defiled. Israel was warned that if they did the same, the land would vomit them out as well.

Verse 5 gives the positive promise: You shall therefore keep my statutes and my ordinances, which if a man does, he shall live in them. Paul quotes this verse in Romans 10 and Galatians 3. He shows that no one keeps the law perfectly, and so life comes through faith in Christ, who kept it for us. God's law still shows us His holy and loving design for life.

  3. What did the chapter's boundaries protect?

  4. What warning was given if Israel did the same as the nations?

  5. How does Paul use verse 5?
