Leviticus 17 · Grade 3
The Life of the Flesh
Read the Story
In Leviticus 17, God told Israel to bring every sacrifice to the door of the Tent of Meeting. The priest would sprinkle the blood on the altar and burn the fat for a pleasant aroma.
God gave a reason. Some people had been offering sacrifices to goat idols in the fields. God wanted His people to stop. They must worship only Him, at the place He chose.
God also said no one may eat blood. For the life of the flesh is in the blood. God gave the blood on the altar to make atonement. This helps us understand why Jesus shed His blood on the cross.
Memory Verse
“For the life of the flesh is in the blood. I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement by reason of the life.”
