Leviticus 15 · Grade 2

Washing and Waiting

Name Date

Read the Story

God gave rules about the body. Sometimes a person was not clean for worship. That was not a sin. It was a normal part of life.

The person had to wash his clothes. He had to take a bath in water. Then he waited until evening. Sometimes he waited seven days.

Then he could bring two doves to the priest. God wanted His tent to stay holy and clean. God cares about every part of our lives, even our bodies.

Memory Verse

“‘Thus you shall separate the children of Israel from their uncleanness, so they will not die in their uncleanness when they defile my tabernacle that is among them.’”

Leviticus 15 · Grade 3

Clean for Worship

Name Date

Read the Story

Leviticus 15 gives rules about things that came from the body. These made a person ceremonially unclean. That meant he could not come to worship for a time. Many of these things were normal and not sinful.

The rules were about washing clothes, bathing in water, and waiting until the evening. Things a person sat or lay on had to be washed too. For some cases, the person counted seven days and then brought two turtledoves or two young pigeons to the priest.

Why did God give these rules? The last verses explain. God wanted to keep His people from defiling His tabernacle that was among them. God lived in the middle of the camp. His people had to be clean to come near Him.

Memory Verse

“‘Thus you shall separate the children of Israel from their uncleanness, so they will not die in their uncleanness when they defile my tabernacle that is among them.’”

Leviticus 15 · Grade 4

God Dwells Among Them

Name Date

Read and Think

Leviticus 15 deals with bodily discharges, private matters of health and body. Some were part of normal life, and some were illnesses. All of them made a person ceremonially unclean for a time. Being unclean was not the same as sinning. It simply meant the person needed to wash and wait before coming near God's holy place.

The person washed his clothes, bathed in water, and was unclean until the evening. Things he touched could need washing too. For longer conditions, the person waited seven days after healing and then brought two birds for the priest to offer.

Verse 31 gives the reason: God's tabernacle was among them. The holy God lived in the middle of the camp. In Mark 5, a woman who had suffered with bleeding for twelve years touched Jesus' clothes. Instead of Jesus becoming unclean, she was healed. Jesus called her daughter and sent her in peace.

  2. How long was a person usually unclean?

  3. What reason does verse 31 give?

Leviticus 15 · Grade 5

Holiness and the Body

Name Date

Read and Think

Leviticus 15 addresses bodily discharges, some from illness and some a normal part of life for men and women. Each made a person ceremonially unclean for a period. The chapter is careful and practical: it explains washing clothes, bathing in water, and waiting until evening, and it lists objects that also needed cleansing. Ritual uncleanness was not moral guilt. It marked the difference between ordinary life and the holy presence of God.

For long-term conditions, the person counted seven days after being healed. On the eighth day, he or she brought two turtledoves or two young pigeons to the door of the Tent of Meeting, and the priest made atonement before Yahweh. The same pattern applied to men and women, showing God's equal concern for both.

The chapter ends with its purpose: Thus you shall separate the children of Israel from their uncleanness, so they will not die in their uncleanness when they defile my tabernacle that is among them. God's presence in the camp was a gift and also a responsibility. In Mark 5, a woman with a long-term flow of blood, the very condition in verse 25, reached out and touched Jesus' garment. Power went out from Him, she was healed, and He called her daughter. In Jesus, holiness flows outward to make people whole.

  3. What does it show that the same pattern applied to men and women?

  4. What is the purpose of the chapter according to verse 31?

  5. Which verse in this chapter describes the condition of the woman in Mark 5?
