Leviticus 1 · Grade 3
A Sweet Smell to the Lord
Read the Story
The Lord called to Moses from the Tent of Meeting. He gave rules for the burnt offering. A person could bring an animal from the herd or from the flock. It had to be a male without defect.
The person brought it to the door of the Tent of Meeting. He laid his hand on its head. God said it would be accepted for him, to make atonement for him. Atonement means God makes a way to cover sin and bring people near.
The priests put wood and fire on the altar. The whole offering was burned there. Even birds, like turtledoves or young pigeons, could be brought. Each one was a pleasant aroma to the Lord. Rich or poor, anyone could come to God.
Memory Verse
““‘If his offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he shall offer a male without defect. He shall offer it at the door of the Tent of Meeting, that he may be accepted before Yahweh.”
