Judges 8 · Grade 3
Yahweh Shall Rule
Read the Story
The men of Ephraim complained that Gideon had not called them. Gideon answered gently that they had done more than he had. Their anger calmed down.
Gideon's three hundred men were faint but still chasing. Succoth and Penuel refused to give them bread. Gideon caught Zebah and Zalmunna, the kings of Midian. Later he punished those towns.
Israel asked Gideon, his son, and his grandson to rule over them. Gideon said, I will not rule over you. Yahweh shall rule over you. But he asked for gold earrings and made an ephod. Israel worshiped it, and it became a snare. After Gideon died, they did not remember Yahweh.
Memory Verse
“Gideon said to them, “I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you. Yahweh shall rule over you.””
