Judges 17 · Grade 3
Everyone Did What He Wanted
Read the Story
Micah lived in the hill country of Ephraim. He took eleven hundred pieces of silver from his mother. When she cursed the thief, he gave it back. She said she would give it to Yahweh, but she used two hundred pieces to make a carved image.
Micah had a house of gods. He made an ephod and teraphim and made one of his sons his priest. In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.
A young Levite from Bethlehem Judah came to Micah's house. Micah offered him ten pieces of silver a year, clothing, and food. The Levite became his priest. Micah said, Now I know that Yahweh will do good to me. But Micah was not doing what God said.
