Joshua 7 · Grade 3
Sin in the Camp
Read the Story
Achan of the tribe of Judah took some of the devoted things from Jericho. Then Joshua sent men to Ai. The spies said only two or three thousand were needed. But Israel fled before the men of Ai, and the hearts of the people melted.
Joshua tore his clothes and fell on his face before the ark until evening. Yahweh said, Get up! Israel has sinned. They had taken devoted things and hidden them among their own stuff. Israel could not stand before their enemies until the devoted thing was taken away.
In the morning the tribes came near, and Achan was taken. Joshua said, My son, please give glory to Yahweh. Achan confessed. He had seen a beautiful Babylonian robe, silver, and a wedge of gold. He coveted them and hid them in the ground in his tent. Achan was punished, and the place was called the valley of Achor.
Memory Verse
