The Wall Fell Down Flat

Name Date

Read the Story

Jericho was shut tight. No one went out. No one came in. God told Joshua that He had given Jericho to him.

God told them what to do. The men marched around the city one time each day. Seven priests blew trumpets of rams' horns. The ark went with them. They did this for six days.

On the seventh day they marched around the city seven times. The priests blew the trumpets. The people gave a great shout. The wall fell down flat! Rahab and her family were kept safe.

Memory Verse

“So the people shouted and the priests blew the trumpets. When the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the people shouted with a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight in front of him, and they took the city.”

By Faith the Walls Fell

Name Date

Read the Story

Jericho was tightly shut up because of the children of Israel. Yahweh said to Joshua, Behold, I have given Jericho into your hand. God gave a plan that did not depend on swords or ladders.

For six days the armed men marched around the city once. Seven priests went before the ark with seven trumpets of rams' horns. Joshua told the people not to shout or even speak until the day he told them.

On the seventh day they rose early and marched around seven times. At the seventh time Joshua said, Shout, for Yahweh has given you the city! The wall fell down flat. The two spies brought out Rahab and all her family, as they had promised. So Yahweh was with Joshua; and his fame was in all the land.

Memory Verse

“So the people shouted and the priests blew the trumpets. When the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the people shouted with a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight in front of him, and they took the city.”

God Gives the City

Name Date

Read and Think

Jericho was tightly shut, but Yahweh told Joshua, Behold, I have given Jericho into your hand. The plan God gave looked strange: no siege, no battering, only marching, trumpets, and silence. Victory would plainly be God's work.

For six days the men of war circled the city once, with seven priests blowing trumpets of rams' horns before the ark. The ark at the center showed that Yahweh Himself was leading. On the seventh day they circled seven times, and at Joshua's command the people shouted. The wall fell down flat.

Jericho was devoted to Yahweh as His judgment, and its silver, gold, bronze, and iron went into Yahweh's treasury. But Rahab and her household were saved because she hid the messengers. In the New Testament, By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they had been encircled for seven days (Hebrews 11:30).

  1. Why did God's plan make the victory plainly His work?

  2. What did the ark at the center show?

  3. Where did the silver and gold go?

Faith That Marches

Name Date

Read and Think

Jericho was tightly shut. Before the battle, Yahweh declared the outcome: Behold, I have given Jericho into your hand.

Seven priests with seven trumpets of rams' horns went before the ark. For six days they circled once in silence. On the seventh day they rose at dawn and circled seven times. At the seventh time Joshua said, Shout, for Yahweh has given you the city! When the people shouted with a great shout, the wall fell down flat.

Jericho was devoted to Yahweh. This was God's judgment, and Israel was not to take its treasures for themselves. Joshua told the two spies to bring out Rahab and all her family, and she lived in the middle of Israel. In the New Testament, both stories are counted as faith: the walls fell by faith, and Rahab did not perish because she received the spies in peace (Hebrews 11:30-31).

  1. When was the victory over Jericho promised?

  2. How many times did they circle the city on the seventh day?

  3. Why were the people not to take Jericho's treasures for themselves?
