Joshua 6 · Grade 5

Faith That Marches

Name Date

Read and Think

Jericho was tightly shut. Before the battle, Yahweh declared the outcome: Behold, I have given Jericho into your hand.

Seven priests with seven trumpets of rams' horns went before the ark. For six days they circled once in silence. On the seventh day they rose at dawn and circled seven times. At the seventh time Joshua said, Shout, for Yahweh has given you the city! When the people shouted with a great shout, the wall fell down flat.

Jericho was devoted to Yahweh. This was God's judgment, and Israel was not to take its treasures for themselves. Joshua told the two spies to bring out Rahab and all her family, and she lived in the middle of Israel. In the New Testament, both stories are counted as faith: the walls fell by faith, and Rahab did not perish because she received the spies in peace (Hebrews 11:30-31).
