God's Faithfulness Summed Up
Read and Think
The tribe of Levi received no single territory. Instead the Levites reminded the leaders at Shiloh that Yahweh had commanded through Moses to give them cities to dwell in, with their pasture lands for their livestock. The tribes obeyed and gave cities out of their own inheritance, according to the commandment of Yahweh.
The cities were assigned by lot to the families of Kohath, Gershon, and Merari, and they were spread through all the tribes. In all there were forty-eight cities with their pasture lands. The Levites who served God now lived among every tribe.
The chapter then sums up the whole conquest. So Yahweh gave to Israel all the land which he swore to give to their fathers. Yahweh gave them rest all around. Nothing failed of any good thing which Yahweh had spoken to the house of Israel. All came to pass.
