Joshua 19 · Grade 4
Joshua's Humble Portion
Read and Think
The last six tribes received their lots. Simeon's inheritance was in the middle of Judah's. Judah's portion was too much for them. Zebulun, Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and Dan came next. The children of Dan also fought against Leshem. They took it and named it Dan.
Joshua received his own land only after every tribe had its land. According to Yahweh's commandment, they gave him the city he asked for. It was Timnathserah in the hill country of Ephraim. The great leader took his portion last. He built the city and lived there.
The chapter closes by naming who did the work. Eleazar the priest, Joshua, and the heads of the tribes divided the land by lot. They did it in Shiloh before Yahweh, at the door of the Tent of Meeting.
