Joshua 18 · Grade 4
God at the Center
Read and Think
Israel set up the Tent of Meeting at Shiloh. The land was subdued before them. But seven tribes still had not divided their inheritance. They had stopped short of receiving what God had given.
Joshua asked them a hard question. How long will you neglect to go in to possess the land, which Yahweh, the God of your fathers, has given you? He chose three men from each tribe. They would survey the land into seven parts and bring the description to him.
The men went through the land. They wrote it by cities into seven portions in a book. Joshua cast lots for them in Shiloh before Yahweh. So each tribe's portion came from God. The first lot was for Benjamin. It lay between Judah and Joseph. The chapter lists Benjamin's borders and cities. They include Jericho and Jebus, which is Jerusalem.
