Joshua 13 · Grade 4

An Unfinished Task

Name Date

Read and Think

Joshua 13 marks a turn in the book from taking the land to sharing it. Joshua was old. Yahweh told him plainly that very much land was left to be possessed. The work was not done. But God promised, I will drive them out from before the children of Israel.

God told Joshua to allocate it to Israel for an inheritance, as I have commanded you. Joshua did not need to wait for every enemy to be gone. He could act on God's promise.

The chapter recalls the land Moses gave east of the Jordan to Reuben, Gad, and half of Manasseh. Twice the chapter notes that Levi received no land. The offerings of Yahweh made by fire were Levi's inheritance, and Yahweh Himself was their inheritance.
