John 20 · Grade 4

Blessed Are Those Who Believe

Name Date

Read and Think

Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early on Sunday and found the stone moved. She thought someone had taken the body. Peter and the beloved disciple raced to the tomb. Inside, the linen cloths lay neatly, with the head cloth rolled up in a place by itself. Robbers would not have left the cloths so neatly. The beloved disciple saw and believed.

Mary stayed, weeping. Two angels asked why she was crying. Then Jesus asked her too, but she did not recognize Him. When He called her by name, she knew Him. Like the Good Shepherd's sheep, she knew His voice. Jesus sent her to tell the others, making her the first witness of the resurrection.

That evening Jesus came to the frightened disciples behind locked doors. He said, Peace be to you, and showed them His wounds. He sent them as the Father had sent Him and breathed on them the Holy Spirit. Thomas doubted until he saw Jesus a week later. Then Thomas made the greatest confession in the Gospel: My Lord and my God! John says he wrote his book so that you may believe Jesus is the Christ and have life in His name.
