John 12 · Grade 3
Blessed Is the King
Read the Story
Six days before the Passover, Jesus was in Bethany. Martha served dinner, and Lazarus was at the table. Mary took a pound of very costly ointment and anointed Jesus' feet. She wiped them with her hair. Judas complained it could have been sold for the poor. But he did not really care about the poor. Jesus said, Leave her alone. She did this for the day of My burial.
The next day, a great crowd took palm branches and went out to meet Jesus. They shouted, Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, the King of Israel! Jesus sat on a young donkey, as Scripture said.
Some Greeks wanted to see Jesus. Jesus said a grain of wheat must fall into the earth and die. Then it bears much fruit. He said when He is lifted up, He will draw all people to Himself. He told them to believe in the light while they had it.
Memory Verse
“they took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet him, and cried out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, the King of Israel!””
