Job 42 · Grade 4
The Friends Corrected
Read and Think
Job answered Yahweh, I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be restrained. Job admitted that he had spoken of things too wonderful for him, which he did not know. I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you. Therefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.
Then Yahweh spoke to Eliphaz. God said His wrath was kindled against him and his two friends, for they had not spoken of Him the thing that is right, as His servant Job had. This settles the long debate. The friends kept saying Job must have sinned, but they were wrong. God told them to offer a burnt offering and said His servant Job would pray for them.
Yahweh restored Job's prosperity when he prayed for his friends. Yahweh gave Job twice as much as he had before. His family came to comfort him. He had also seven sons and three daughters. After this Job lived one hundred forty years. In the New Testament, James writes that you have heard of the perseverance of Job and have seen how the Lord is full of compassion and mercy (James 5:11).
