Job 33 · Grade 4
God Is Greater Than Man
Read and Think
Elihu asked Job to listen to all his words. The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life. He said he was formed out of the clay, just as Job was, so Job did not need to be afraid of him.
Elihu said he had heard Job claim to be clean and to say God counted him as an enemy. Elihu answered, In this you are not just, for God is greater than man. He asked why Job would strive against God for not explaining Himself.
Elihu said God speaks once, yes twice, though man pays no attention. God speaks in dreams and through times of pain, to turn people from pride. God keeps back his soul from the pit. Then a person may sing, He has redeemed my soul from going into the pit. My life will see the light. Elihu said some true things about God, but he was also too harsh with Job, and God Himself has the final word.
