Those Who Rebel Against the Light

Read the Story

Job asked, Why aren't times laid up by the Almighty? He wondered why people do not see God judge evil right away.

Job said some people remove the landmarks and take away flocks. They take the widow's ox for a pledge. They turn the needy out of the way. The poor lie all night without clothing and have no covering in the cold.

Job said some rebel against the light. They don't know its ways. But Job said, God gives them security, and they rest in it. His eyes are on their ways. God sees everything, and He will judge in His time.

Job 24 · Grade 4

God Sees the Poor

Name Date

Read and Think

Job asked why the Almighty does not set times of judgment that people can see. Those who know God do not always see Him act right away.

Job described terrible injustice. Some remove landmarks to steal land. They drive away the donkey of the fatherless and take the widow's ox. The poor hide themselves. They are wet with the showers of the mountains and embrace the rock for lack of a shelter. From the city, men groan, and the soul of the wounded cries out.

Job also described people who rebel against the light and do evil in the dark, when they think no eye will see them. Yet Job said, His eyes are on their ways. God sees every hidden deed. The wicked are lifted up for a little while, and then they are gone.

Job 24 · Grade 5

His Eyes Are on Their Ways

Name Date

Read and Think

Job asks, Why aren't times laid up by the Almighty? Why don't those who know him see his days? He wonders why God's judgment is not seen on a clear schedule. This is an honest question that many believers ask, and Job brings it to God rather than turning away from Him.

Job describes the suffering of the poor in detail. There are people who remove the landmarks. They violently take away flocks. They drive away the donkey of the fatherless, and they take the widow's ox for a pledge. They turn the needy out of the way. The poor lie all night naked without clothing and have no covering in the cold. From out of the populous city, men groan. The soul of the wounded cries out.

Job then describes those who rebel against the light, who do evil in the dark and say, No eye will see me. For them the morning is like thick darkness. Yet Job affirms that God sees: God gives them security, and they rest in it. His eyes are on their ways. They are exalted for a little while, then they are gone. Job does not deny God's justice. He says it often comes later than people expect.
