Job 22 · Grade 4
A List of Untrue Sins
Read and Think
In his third speech, Eliphaz went further than before. He asked, Isn't your wickedness great? Neither is there any end to your iniquities. He now named specific sins.
Eliphaz said Job had taken pledges from his brother for nothing and stripped the naked of their clothing. He said Job withheld water from the weary and bread from the hungry, and sent widows away empty. Not one of these charges was true. In chapter 29, Job describes how he clothed himself with righteousness and helped the fatherless.
Eliphaz then urged Job to return to God: Acquaint yourself with him now, and be at peace. Lay up his words in your heart. The Almighty will be your treasure. These words are true about God, but Eliphaz aimed them at Job as if Job had turned away from God.
