Job 19 · Grade 4

Engraved in the Rock

Read and Think

Job asked his friends how long they would crush him with words. He told them that if he had erred, his error remained with himself. He felt God had walled up his way, stripped him of his glory, and plucked up his hope like a tree.

Everyone close to Job turned away. His brothers were far from him, his familiar friends forgot him, and even young children despised him. He begged, Have pity on me, you my friends, for the hand of God has touched me.

Job wished his words could be written in a book or engraved in the rock forever. Then he made a bold statement of faith: I know that my Redeemer lives. In the end, he will stand upon the earth. He said he would see God in his flesh, on his side. In the New Testament, Jesus lives forever to make intercession for His people (Hebrews 7:25).
