Job 10 · Grade 5
Your Hands Framed Me
Read and Think
Chapter 10 continues Job's prayer. My soul is weary of my life. I will give free course to my complaint. He asks God, Do not condemn me. Show me why you contend with me. He asks whether God has eyes of flesh or sees as man sees, and says, Although you know that I am not wicked, there is no one who can deliver out of your hand.
Job then recalls his own creation with remarkable beauty. Your hands have framed me and fashioned me altogether. Remember, I beg you, that you have fashioned me as clay. You have clothed me with skin and flesh, and knit me together with bones and sinews. You have granted me life and loving kindness. Your visitation has preserved my spirit. Psalm 139 uses similar language to praise God for forming a person in the womb.
The tension in Job's heart is that the same hands now seem to destroy him. If his head is held high, God hunts him like a lion. Job asks why he was brought out of the womb and pleads for a little comfort before going to the land of darkness. Job's words show both his faith that God made him and his confusion about God's ways. The book will show that God had not abandoned the one He fashioned.
