Job 10 · Grade 4

The Potter and the Clay

Read and Think

Job said he would give free course to his complaint. He asked God not to condemn him but to show him why He contended with him. He asked whether God sees as man sees, since God knew Job was not wicked.

Job described how God made him. Your hands have framed me and fashioned me altogether. God fashioned him as clay, clothed him with skin and flesh, and knit him together with bones and sinews. God granted him life and loving kindness and preserved his spirit.

Job could not fit these truths together. How could the God who made him so carefully now seem to hunt him like a lion? In deep sorrow he asked why he had been born. He begged for a little comfort before he went to the land of darkness.
